After eating your lacto fermented pickles, a jar of brine, garlic, dill, grape leaf and spices will remain. Pour the brine through a strainer. This brine now has a new identity. It has transformed into – lacto fermented pickle juice!
Benefits of Lacto Fermented Pickle Juice
This juice is a by-product from the process of making lacto fermented pickles. Here is the recipe for Lacto Fermented Dill Pickles.
Fermented pickle juice has the following benefits:
- It’s thirst quenching and tasty, a great alternative to soft drinks.
- It’s a good source of electrolytes, as it replaces salt lost through sweat on hot day or during exercise.
- It contains lots of probiotics (much needed for gut health.)
- It can help with blood sugar regulation.
- It may support weight loss.
- It contains disease fighting antioxidants.
I dilute the pickle juice by mixing half a glass of it with half a glass of water. Drinking it ‘neat’ can cause an unwanted amount of time in the ‘powder room’, due to the high sodium content!
Storage
Store pickle juice in the refrigerator for about 3 months in an air tight container. The juice won’t necessarily spoil, but it will loose it’s beneficial health contributions.
Uses
Treat this pickle juice in the same way as you would a sports or energy drink. It is particularly good to drink after a period of sickness. It will assist with any electrolyte imbalance that may occur. Feel free to give it to children to drink, but ensure they drink double the amount of water to pickle juice quantity.
