1 Minute, 3 Ingredient, Microwave Hot Fudge Sauce

That’s all it takes, 1 minute, 3 ingredients and a microwave to make this incredible Hot Fudge Sauce! Yes, Hot Fudge Sauce can be made in a microwave, using one dish (Pyrex jug) and a whisk, with pantry staples.

This recipe is quick (1 minute), easy (only 3 ingredients used) and the best! Think of it as a velvety hug enveloping your choice of ice cream. Rich and decadent!

How does this 3 ingredient Hot Fudge Sauce compare with Smucker’s®(the leading manufacturer of Hot Fudge topping)?

Similarities:

  • Both sauces are microwavable with the same goal of having easily pourable Hot Sauce.
  • Neither sauce contains artificial flavors or colors.
  • Both are dairy based.

Differences:

  • Smucker’s® uses hydrogenated cottonseed oil, which is deemed safe by the Food and Drug Administration, only if a little is consumed.
  • Smucker’s® also contains potassium sorbate, mono and diglycerides, sodium phosphate, and sodium citrate. These artificially added ingredients act as preservatives, shelf life extenders, texture improvers and acidity reducers. Sodium phosphate is consumed before a colonoscopy, (it empties the colon).
  • The 3 ingredient Hot Fudge Sauce costs about two thirds as much as Smucker’s® to produce. A 15.5 oz microwavable bottle costs about $5. My ingredients to make quick Hot Fudge Sauce microwave style costs about $3.80 for 16 oz.
  • Making homemade Hot Fudge Sauce allows you to have complete control over the quality of the ingredients.

Ingredients For Easy Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce

This recipe is for Hot Fudge Sauce with sweetened condensed milk.

Finally the big reveal – the 3 ingredients:

  • Sweetened condensed milk: full fat.
  • Chocolate chips: semi sweet is preferred.
  • Butter: salted.

These ingredients are reminiscent of ingredients used in old fashioned Hot Fudge Sauce that your Grandma would have made.

How To Make Hot Fudge Sauce Microwave Style

Hot Fudge Sauce recipe is below. Making Hot Fudge Sauce couldn’t be any easier, have a look and see for yourself!

Cut up butter into smaller cubes and add chocolate chips.

Pour in the sweetened condensed milk.

With all 3 ingredients ready in a microwavable container (Pyrex jug is ideal), it’s off to the microwave.

Microwave on power level high for 40 seconds, stir. Microwave for another 20 seconds and stir.

Even if the ingredients do not look as though they have all melted, continue to stir. The residual heat will melt the remaining butter and chocolate chips.

Decide how to store the Hot Fudge Sauce. Yield is 16oz so 4 x 4oz jars or 2 x8 oz jars are ideal.

Once the Hot Fudge Sundae Sauce has been jarred, allow the Sauce to cool and then store it in the refrigerator.

Flexibility with Microwave Hot Fudge Sauce Ingredients

This recipe is for Hot Fudge Sauce without cream. If cream is preferred over sweetened condensed milk, feel free to use the same quantity (14oz) of whipping cream. Add it to the melted butter and chocolate chips when they come out of the microwave. Slowly whisk in the cream until well blended.

I recommend using semi sweet chocolate chips to provide a little bitterness to balance out the sweetness of the sweetened condensed milk. Use milk chocolate instead for a creamier, milder flavored chocolate Hot Sauce. For a white sauce use white baking chips.

This recipe makes naturally gluten-free Hot Fudge Sauce. All of the above substitutions and variations do not introduce gluten into this sauce.

Single Serve Portion of Microwave Hot Fudge Sauce

This recipe yields 16oz of Hot Fudge Sauce, a serving size is 1 tbsp. In order to make microwave Hot Fudge Sauce for one I recommend making at least 4 oz worth. This would require mixing 1.5 oz of chocolate chips with 3.5 oz of condensed milk and just shy of 1 tbsp of salted butter. Microwave these 3 ingredients for 10-15 seconds and mix well.

Uses for Hot Fudge Sauce

The most popular way to use this, is as an ice cream sauce. The heat from the sauce naturally compliments the cool creamy sensation of ice cream. Use Hot Fudge Sauce as a main ingredient in a Brownie Hot Fudge Sundae, using these Easy Fudgy Brownies as a base.

Hot Fudge Sauce is giftable, pour the Sauce into the jars of your choice, screw on the lid, then decorate the jar however you would like. Great for Valentine’s, Christmas or any summer party.

Got Questions?

I’ve got answers – hopefully!

Can you freeze Hot Fudge Sauce?

Yes, Hot Fudge Sauce can be frozen for up to 3 months in the freezer. Defrost overnight in the refrigerator. Do NOT reheat the defrosted jar in the microwave. There is a risk the jar could crack. Instead spoon the amount you want into a microwavable container and reheat.

How do you reheat Hot Fudge Sauce?

Microwave is the best, it’s fast and easy, BUT I do not recommend reheating it in a glass jar as it can crack. If you make a full quantity of this recipe, use a microwavable squeeze bottle that can handle multiple times being refrigerated / reheated.

Can you microwave a jar of Hot Fudge Sauce?

I would not recommend it because it can crack, not always though. If you store your Hot Fudge Sauce in a glass mason jar and want to use the microwave to reheat it, then leave the jar out of the refrigerator for as long as possible. Bringing the jar to room temperature is the key to minimizing cracked jars.

How can you thin Hot Fudge Sauce if it is too thick?

If your Hot Fudge Sauce is hot, then evaporated milk or whole milk can be added slowly to thin it. Start with about 1 tsp at a time and keep adding until you desired thickness. If your Hot Fudge Sauce is cool, then reheating it will automatically thin it.

How do you keep Hot Fudge Sauce warm for a party?

There are numerous ways to keep Hot Fudge Sauce warm. Slow cooker (on low), in a water bath (use a bowl filled with hot water and place jars or squeeze bottles in the hot water bath), fondue pot, even an Instant Pot (on low).
