This is an easy recipe for Garlic Knots in the Air Fryer using fresh homemade pizza or bread dough. Store bought fresh or frozen pizza dough can also be used.

Ingredients Needed to Make Air Fryer Garlic Knots with Pizza Dough

  • Ready make pizza dough – can be fresh or frozen store bought, or homemade. I found my recipe for Slow Rise Pizza Dough to be ideal!
  • Butter: I like to use Irish butter (of course).
  • Olive oil or similar high temperature oil, like avocado oil.
  • Fresh garlic.

How do you Make Garlic Knots in the Air Fryer?

Divide the dough into 4 pieces.

Roll out each piece into a long sausage shape, about 16 inches / 40 cm. Form it into a loop.

Lift the center of the loop.

Holding the loop, pick up the right end of the dough and insert the end through the loop.

This is how it looks with the right side completed.

Lift the left end of the dough.

Insert a finger in the dough knot and thread the left end of the dough through.

Ensure the two ends of the pizza dough are firmly tucked under the dough knot.

How Long do you Cook Garlic Dough Balls in the Air Fryer?

Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F. / 180 degrees C. Remove the basket and brush a little oil over the surface. Place the 4 pizza dough knots into the basket.

Brush the tops of the knots with olive oil. Air fry for 8-10 minutes. After 8 minutes, check for doneness by pushing the center. If the center of the knot feels doughy, then air fry for another minute or two.

Peel (I used a silicone garlic skin remover) the garlic cloves and finely chop them.

Melt the butter in a pan / pot, or microwave. Add the chopped garlic when melted. Remove from heat.

Adding the Final Touches

Brush the garlic butter over the bread knots.

Optional serving suggestion is to add some torn parsley or basil, and / or freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Can I make sour dough Garlic Knots with this recipe?

Make or buy sourdough bread dough. Follow the instructions above (or on the recipe card) to make a sourdough version. The amount of air frying time should be similar.

How long do you cook Garlic Knots in the Air Fryer?

It depends on how cold the bread dough is. The average amount of air frying time is 8-10 minutes. Pizza dough used straight out of the fridge will take longer to air fry.

Can I use frozen dough to make these Garlic Knots

Yes, it is better to defrost the dough fully and bring the dough to room temperature before air frying. This will provide more even-cooking. If dough is used that is not fully defrosted, there is a risk that the surface of the knots will be over baked while the center remains doughy.

How to reheat Garlic Knots in the Air Fryer?

Reheat the Garlic Knots for about 2-3 minutes, longer if the air fryer is not preheated.
